Sentinel Spectrum Sponsorship

We often get asked how an animal can be sponsored and it’s always been something that’s difficult for us to work out .. eg how much does it cost to feed a dog - that kind of thing.  We’re really excited about offering the following sponsorship idea.  For $15 per month you can sponsor a dog for a monthly tablet of Sentinel Spectrum.  This covers heartworm, all worms and flea treatment.

To some of you this may sound as not very important, but just in time saving for volunteers it is HUGE, and the health benefits for the dogs are too numerous to mention.  We’ve implemented a reminder system per dog to minimise work for the shelter manager and we can’t wait to get this idea underway.  If you wish you can remain anonymous, or your name can appear on the website and facebook.  When the dog is rehomed you'll be contacted and asked if you'd like to transfer your sponsorship to another dog.

Now all we need is you ..... can you help make our life easier and help with the health of our dogs for $15 per month?

PRICE INCREASE

As you're all aware nothing stays the same price forever - everything is going up including our
veterinary expenses and food for the animals.  From the 1st May 2012 the price of dogs will
increase to $215.  This still includes desexing, microchipping and vaccinations and delivery
can be arranged to Adelaide for an additional $20.
Cats will remain at $100 each which includes desexing and vaccinations.

SURRENDER FEE

Due to other rescues discriminating against certain breeds and foster organisations unwilling to provide support once an unsuitable dog has been homed with a foster carer we find ourselves with no other choice but to introduce surrender fees to anyone outside the Riverland area. This is very unfortunate and we have carried this burden as long as we can but the shelter cannot continue to operate unless changes are made.

We do not get any government assistance and are funded through donations and although our contributors are generous those wishing to take advantage of the shelter are not. The cost to adopt from our shelter is subsidised and all we are asking is for a contribution towards expenses from those looking to surrender. Our main focus has and always will be the animals in our care.

Facebook has been a mixed blessing; introducing the shelter to some truly wonderful people and some great homes have been found but given the ‘faceless’ element of this medium has meant no one is accountable, no one is responsible and emotional blackmail is acceptable. Again, all we want to do is to help animals find happy furever homes but we only have a certain amount of resources and facilities, not to mention hands ~ for those unaware 90% of the work at the shelter is carried out by 1 person.

The fees are:

Undesexed and/or unvaccinated dog not from the Riverland - $100
Desexed and vaccinated dog not from the Riverland (Vet Documentation Required) - $50
Dogs from the Riverland - $0 (Proof via photo licence required)
Transport arranged at the discretion of the shelter and when time and resources available - $20 minimum.

Our policy of not discriminating will proudly continue. We hope you continue to support us and understand why these measures are necessary for our survival.

A BIT ABOUT US

Firstly - we're volunteers, not paid staff.  If you come to the shelter you wont see a reception desk with staff waiting for your visit.  You're more likely to meet Lola out in the kennels, completely run off her feet trying to get everything done.

If you ring and we don't answer the phone the please leave a message.  Someone will get back to you, usually within 24 hours.

If you email and we don't respond immediately it's because we also have paid full time jobs - once again we'll get back to you within 24 hours.

The Moorook Animal Shelter is a non profit / non kill organisation established in 1999.

Our shelter has made such a difference for so many of the unwanted dogs in our local area.  More and more dogs are being rehomed into Adelaide, and the best thing you can do to help us is let your friends, neighbours, relatives and workmates know that we exist.

We may not be able to save every dog, but you can help us try, as every one of them deserves a place to call home.

Whether you choose to view your next best friend on here, or on Facebook, I'm sure you'll find the Moorook Animal Shelter has an dog to suit everyone.

WAITING LIST

We often get asked if it's possible to be placed on a waiting list .... well now it is.  Please follow the link on the left hand side 'Waiting List' and complete the form.  We'll get back to you when we can find your perfect match !

K-P.U.P. Sponsorship

We are very proud to offer this 10-day board and train option for any dog with the K - P.U.P. note on the bottom of their description.  In partnership with Bob Yeo of Canine Detection Service - a trainer with over 20 years who is a SA Government Accredited Dog Trainer - we are pleased to being giving some of our overlooked residents this chance at getting a ‘Paw-Up’.  For $180 you will be adopting a desexed, micro-chipped, vaccinated and professionally trained dog; you will get progress updates throughout this training period and upon collection will spend time and get advice from Bob on how to be the best dog owner you can be.

Paws-Up was devised because a lot of people are hesitant to take on a dog term resident for fear they may have becoming institutionalised by being in the shelter environment for a longer than average period of time.  Dogs don’t have such reservations; they live in the moment, but a little extra education never hurt anyone.

Dogs chosen by to be in K - P.U.P. are eligible by private sponsorship - if you feel you would like to help a dog at the shelter by becoming a K - P.U.P. Sponsor; please contact us. We are happy to keep your details private if you prefer or you may choose to lead by example. The choice of which dog you sponsor is totally up to you.
